 As we all should know, dialing 411 directly from our land-lines or cell phones charges us somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.99 PER call. Here are a few of the FREE 411 services available to everyone: 1  The one that most of us already know about is 1-800-FREE-411. There is one drawback of using this service. Once you dial it, you get to listen to 10 seconds of advertisements from sponsors of the service. None of us like listening to advertisements anymore than we like phone calls from telemarketers. Once the ads are over though, you can get Business or Residential listings while on the phone or have them texted to your cell phone. Good service huh? 2  Our second free 411 option is dialing 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411). This service works the same was as 1-800-FREE-411 but WITHOUT the sponsor advertisements. This service does not offer Residential listings, only Business listings, but Google-411 also connects you directly to the business you are trying to contact. So far so good. 3  My personal favorite - Google SMS (Text). You send a text message (Example: Pizza, Denver NC) to Google's SMS number - 46645 - Google sends an SMS message (or messages, depending on how many listings your search returns) back to you with the results. This does not require your phone to be web browsing capable. You just have to be able to text and receive texts. 4  The fourth and final free 411 service I use is 1-800-Bing-411. The number to dial is: 1-800-246-4411. This works the same as 1-800-GOOG-411 except it offers audio directions and weather updates as well as business listings. |
