The recession lets face it if you are in business then you have had to roll with the punches just like everyone else out there. Yes the country is in a financial crisis but guess what, there are always people who come out on top regardless of what the economy is doing. So time to roll up your sleeves and go the extra mile.

    WHAT ARE PEOPLE LOOKING FOR?
    Do you really have the product that people are looking for in this type of economy? And if not how can you tweak your business to find something that can really benefit them. This recession has changed the economy, and it has also changed the way people spend their money and what they spend it on. So think about supply and demand and ask your self what do people need right now? What can I offer them?





  • Step 2


    GO THE EXTRA MILE
    Any smart business owner knows that the extra mile may take a little more time, energy and money, but at the end of the day the rewards are worth it. People can always go get lunch at the café next door. Why...they've being in business much longer than you and they have a great following. You have to put yourself in the shoes of your customer, why would they walk in your café instead of the one next door. May be you have candles on the table or your employees are really personable. I always think of Trader Joe's and every time I go in the store I have to stand in a long line but the people who work there are always helpful and happy like they really like there job. So take a stand and go the extra mile in your business.

    SPLURGE ON MARKETING
    While everyone else is pulling their budget on marketing it's time for you to go the extra mile. Remember the old saying, "You have to spend money to make money", well this is the time to scrape together those extra marketing dollars. In this type of economy we have more window shoppers than buyers. So at the end of the day you need to get more people looking in your window so more people will walk in your store.

    DON'T LISTEN TO MEDIA
    If you follow the media the mental torture can put you out of business. Talk about rubbing your face in it. We know there is a recession but come do we have to be reminded every single day. Keep focused on your goal which is keeping your customers happy, and do yourself a favor censor the negative press around you and all the idle gossip associated with staying in business.

    PLAN B
    For some unfortunately you may need to come up with a Plan B. Yes some people will have to jump ship in this recession but there is always a life guard standing by to bail you out. Just keep your eyes open and take a look at supply and demand because there are always other opportunities on the horizon you just have to put yourself in the right place at the right time and recognize them when they show up.
