  • Step 1

    Legalities:
Choose a name for you salon and then go through the legalities of setting up this business, such as getting it registered with city, state and licensed. Also ensure that it is insured against accidents and lawsuits.

  • Step 2

    Financial Planning:
If you are planning to start a beauty salon then you need to plan the financial bit. Not only will you have to pay the people you plan to employ but there will be other expenses like the equipments and the products required, the furniture, water pipes and sinks and of course the decorations. If you are renting a place then obviously rent will have to be kept in consideration but if you are planning to run the salon from your home then you will need license and permit regulations. All this might seem a hefty list and the initial cost will be much but the business is blooming and soon you will be earning more than you spent.

  • Step 3

    Location:
Location also plays an important part in the number of customers you attract. If the salon is located in a commercial area with lots of malls, theatres and boutiques nearby then more customers one will get more customers. As starting a salon in an area where the demand for one is more is more rewarding than opening a salon in an area where already one exists. The competition between the two might affect the customer base resulting in a loss.

  • Step 4

    Advertisements:
One just cannot expect people to come running in as soon as they see the 'open' sign. Advertisement is required. You can advertise your salon by handing out pamphlets, announcing the grand opening in newspapers and through other forms of media.

  • Step 5

    Atmosphere:
The salon should have a comfortable, professional and friendly atmosphere, all at the same time. The decor should be such that the salon does not look too modern or too traditional but something in between. Clean and inviting atmosphere is a must. No one would want to return to a salon where the staff is unfriendly or inexperienced or where there is no sign of hygiene.

  • Step 6

    Staff:
Hire a qualified staff and make sure they all have beauty licenses. The staff should be well aware of all the beauty products and their side effects. Along with that the staff should be able to give advice to the customers regarding their skin types, for not all ingredients in a product suit all skin types. The staff's appearance should be pleasing to the eyes; no one wants to be made up by unkempt people. It should be friendly and polite, also willing to strike a conversation,
