A yoga studio should be a haven for calm, inward reflection and spiritual development---all of which are hard to come by if there are piles of props crashing to the floor. Organizing equipment in a yoga facility is a step-by-step process that will focus your practice and usher in positive change. Just think of it as a therapeutic posture sequence for your gear. |

Props in proper alignmentStep 1 Separate your yoga facility equipment into like groups: mats with mats, bolsters with bolsters. Make piles of each type of prop. Evaluate the numbers, being sure the ones you keep are in decent working shape. Step 2 Designate a zone in each practice room for equipment storage. Install enough industrial-strength wire shelving to accommodate props that can be stacked, such as mats, blocks and bolsters. Step 3 Lining up the props on the floor to visualize the sequences used in class, create a progression for your equipment based on when each prop is needed. Then put away props in that order. Each shelf should become home base for a different type of prop. Make sure students can access props easily---even if they arrive a little late. Step 4 Install large wall hooks to hold enough yoga straps for everyone in the class. Step 5 Make a spot for a few extra large industrial wire bins---this is the ideal storage for bulky items such as inflated yoga balls and meditation cushions. |
