To send a letter or package, use a mail service such as the United States Postal Service. The USPS has many different mailboxes throughout the United States that can accept most letters and some packages.

  • Step 1

Drive to the nearest post office. Each post office has a USPS mailbox outside of it that you can use to mail your letter or parcel.

  • Step 2

Call your local post office and ask where the nearest USPS mailbox is. Provide your home address, or the address that you're nearest to, and the post office will direct you to the nearest box.

  • Step 3

Use a Mailbox locater on the internet. (See "Resources" below.) Type in your ZIP code to see nearby boxes, although some locators may be able to use your address as well.
