If you plan on starting your own business in Australia, you will eventually have to create an Australian Business Number (ABN). An ABN is simply a unique number assigned to your business at registration that establishes it as a unique entity in the country of Australia. Creating an ABN is a simple process that can be done with as little as a few clicks of the mouse, however it is important that you have thoroughly developed a solid business plan before registration. |

Step 1 Go to the ABN website. Once you have reached the page, click "Select or Apply for an ABN." Depending on whether or not this is your first visit to the site, select either "new" or "resume" application. Create a unique password for your unique account. Make sure it is something you and all of your partners (if any) can remember easily. Step 2 Complete the application questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of a series of questions used to determine the nature of your business, your location, involved partners, associated retailers, tax information and all other relevant pieces of information that will be needed to officially start your business. Make sure this information is completely accurate as it will be on file with the government. Step 3 File a declaration of business. A declaration of business simply states that you wish to start a business in the country of Australia and that you give the government permission to investigate into your business and decide if it is eligible to be established. Finish by submitting your completed application and clicking the "Submit Application" button at the bottom of the page. Your application will be reviewed, and you should receive a decision within seven business days. |
