Step 1 Examine the check. Most standard checks have the following information already pre-printed: your account number, routing number, financial institution, check number, your address, and your name. Your telephone number, date of birth, and driver's license number may all be printed on your check, but these are optional. Make sure you know what is or is not printed on your check. Step 2 Fill in the other necessary information. This may include: who the check is to, the date of the check, the check amount spelled in letters(be sure to show cents as a fraction of 100, the amount of the check written in numbers, record what you bought( do this on the memo line), in numbers, the amount of the check, and lastly your signature. Step 3 Look for mistakes. Make sure you have filled out each part of the check. Most important, your signature MUST be filled out. Step 4 Now for the final step. After making sure that the check is properly filled out, give the check to the cashier if you are at a store. If you are mailing a bill, make sure to put the check in an envelope with the bill. |
