More than three-fourths of American households hold a credit card, with Visa being the most widely used credit card worldwide. Doing business is extremely difficult for a business if it does not accept payment by Visa. Customers have become accustomed to the ease of using a Visa card and its wide acceptance is convenient for customers and businesses alike. Registering as a vendor that accepts Visa is a quick and simple process. |

Step 1 Open an account with a bank or other financial institution that has a relationship with Visa. (See References below for a list of all Visa-affiliated institutions and banks.) The institution or bank will set the business account up to accept Visa transactions. This bank or financial institution is called the "acquirer." Step 2 Read the "Merchant Responsibilities" that accompany being a vendor that can accept Visa cards. Merchants must agree to follow all federal and state business laws and regulations and agree to use the Visa transactions for legal sales only. Step 3 Buy a credit card imprinter. This is the machine that the vendor will run the Visa card through when a purchase is made. The imprinter sends the information about the card to the acquirer, who then verifies the card's status with the financial institution that issued the credit card. Credit card imprinters can be purchased online or at a business supply store. Step 4 If the Visa card will be used to accept online purchases, acquire credit card software. A number of companies sell such software online. |
